Iron tsuba in a nagamarugata shape (oval) with an iroe takazogan design (inlaying of various metals).
The design represents a Hō-hō, the oriental equivalent of our phœnix. This legendary bird with vividly colored feathers, born in China, is frequently represented in japanese arts, and particularly on tsuba.
Here, the phœnix is inlayed in iroe takazogan with gold, suaka, shakudo and shibuichi, flying above a pine tree branch and reishi (mushrooms symbolising longevity)
