According to the legend, Minamoto no Yoritomo was trying to escape from the enemy and was forced to hide in the hollow of a tree from where two white pigeons flew out. From this story this bird was drawn on the banners of the Minamoto clan and was later devoted to the god of war Hachiman, which it became the messenger.
